Coasters, Bumper Cars and the Tower of Fear!
Funtown Pier is located at the southern end of the boardwalk. The amusement rides are heavily weighted towards the kiddies but there are some good adult rides too. With all the smaller rides the Funtown Pier takes pride in offering their amusement area as a very child friendly place. You can arrange to host a birthday party there, with at least 12 children, or any other kind of party for 20 or more people. The fee depends on the timing and number of people but you and your guests will have an unlimited ride pass – call 732 830-7437 or use their online contact form).
The Funtown Pier maintains weekend hours during April, May, part of June, and September. During the summer season the amusement area is open every day. You can find a link to their annual schedule here.
Here are a few of the rides they offer (some rides have restrictions regarding size, height or age):
Tower of Fear – 225 foot high tower, get strapped in and shot to the top. It offers a great bird's eye view of Seaside Heights and surrounding areas.
Jr. Go Carts – a relatively small track, but still a great treat for children.
Bumper Cars – the classic boardwalk ride!
Roller Coaster – the Loop Roller Coaster and the much tamer Mighty Mouse.
Giant Ferris Wheel – a gentler way than the Tower of Fear to get a spectacular view of Seaside, Barnegat Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Other child rides include the Jr. Flume, Mini Dragon Ride, Rio Grande Train, Funtown Family Coaster, and more.
There are also many boardwalk stands, shops and arcades that are found adjacent to the amusement rides. There is a carousel inside one of the largest arcades here and you will also find the Berkley Sweet Shop. It sells salt water taffy, which they make right on the premises, and other sweets.
